Welcome to the Sanibel-Captiva Orchid Society, dedicated to engaging and educating orchid lovers on our islands and Lee County.  We always welcome guests to our meetings ($5 guest fee) but encourage full-time residents, part-time residents and short-term visitors to join - it’s only $25 per year for membership; families only $40.  We are finally restarting after Hurricane IAN.  No fees at this time.  Normal memberships will begin in October, 2024.

We meet monthly from October to May, with a special Christmas luncheon in December.

Meetings begin at 12:30 PM at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church at 2304 Periwinkle Way on Sanibel.  We meet the third Monday of the month.

We also offer a "Fundamentals Session", prior to our regular meeting, with a very experienced society member offering useful tips on orchid growing.  These topics might include culture of specific types of orchids, proper watering and fertilizing, repotting, and understanding pests and diseases.  Fundamental Sessions on hold until the Fall of 2024

Meetings include:

·       Show and tell - what’s that blemish on the leaf?  Why doesn’t my plant have roots? Experienced members and speakers offer answers.

·       Schedule of upcoming events of interest.

·       Member’s orchid show - plants grown by members compete for ribbons.

·       Knowledgeable speakers on growing, maintaining, propagating and showing orchids.

·       A popular raffle; an easy way to increase your collection.  Members receive free raffle tickets!

·       Quality plants for sale by professional Florida orchid growers.

The Sanibel-Captiva Orchid Society has an extensive lending library which is available to all members at no additional cost.

The Society frequently offers orchid books and orchid-growing materials at deep discounts.
